Welcome!
Lemme tell you 'bout the books I love, and about the books and stories I'll be sharing with this Bindery community.
It's all been a happy accident, my life as a Bookfluencer. Even just calling myself a boofluencer feels strange. I still don't consider myself as anything other than a big nerd talking about the books he loves. One day, in October, I pressed record on TikTok, and here I am, two years later, still talking about books and writing, still makin' new friends every day.
The experience has changed my life in many ways, and I'm pumped to grow the community here in a new way.
I started those first few videos chatting about short-fiction. I know, niching all the way down to literary short-fiction doesn't seem like the best social media plan--and it wasn't. If you go watch some of my early videos . . . They're hard to watch.
But I found a few like-minded short-fiction lovers, and I kept watching other creators, and I found a butt-load of other great work, some of it short-fiction, most of it anything but.
So my page has grown from talking about Tobias Wolff and Edith Pearlman and Lydia Davis and Lucia Berlin to Yann Martel and Rachel Cusk, to Emily Austin and Chelsea Wakelyn, to Sheila Heti, N.K. Jemison, R.F. Kuang--all the BookTok darlings--to new writers I'd never have found outside of TikTok: Daniel Vitale, Lilian Nattel, Gwen Tuinman, or Ryka Aoki. It's renewed my love for classics like Jane Austen or Even Anne of Green Gables and Little Women. And I love talking about all of em.
The page has led to many opportunities for me. I've started a podcast--Tim Blackett & Friends--on which I interview writers about their work and their creative processes. I've interviewed artists like Emily Austin, Sheila Heti, Michael Jamin, Sophie Mackintosh, and I've got names like Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah and Fredrick Backman for upcoming episodes. I've got a book club (also Tim Blackett & Friends) over on Bookclubs.com. It's free to join if ya want ta. So many opportunities I'm proud of.
But the most exciting thing for me has been building a community of readers who are as intersted in stories--Good Stories!--as much as I am, and being able to talk about them together. And I just know this Bindery experience is going to make that bigger and better and more fulfilling than ever.
I'm so glad you're here, and I so hope you'll join me (and all of my new friends!).
